Sleeping bags and what does TOG mean
The weather is getting colder, and we want to ensure that our babies can enjoy a warm and cosy night. Babies compared to adults are less able to regulate their body temperature. To know and decide about the sleep wear of your baby, you will want to take at first a TOG rating into consideration.
What does TOG mean?
TOG (Thermal Overall Grade) is a unit of measurement for the thermal resistance of textiles. The larger the TOG, the warmer the sleeping bag will keep.
Measure the temperature of your baby’s room and check the chart for the corresponding TOG rating.
What clothes should my child wear in the sleeping bag?
When choosing a sleeping bag, it is important that factors such as the baby’s ambient temperature and clothing must be taken into account to ensure that the baby is not hypothermic or overheated.
The table above serves as a guide to what clothes children should wear in their sleeping bag. Use your judgment to dress your child comfortably.
Neck check: Please always check your baby is not too warm and not too cold. Feel their neck, if it feels too cool, your baby is cold. If it is sticky or sweaty, your child is too warm.
Choosing right materials for Baby’s sleepwear
Cotton, bamboo, microfleece and wool are great choices for baby’s sleepwear. Soft, breathable, and hypoallergenic fabrics can minimize the risk of skin irritation or allergic reactions.
Synthetic fabrics should be in general avoided, those can trap the heat and moisture while sleep. Which leads to overheating and discomfort for your baby.
